Christmas performances at Alexandro-Nevskaya Lavra
Everybody is preparing for the Christmas in Petersburg. The rehearsals of different folk groups at Alexandra-Nevskaya Lavra have finished.
"Koleso" artists are singing and dancing in a ring, are acting and playing the Gospel plot. The report made by Alexandra Tolubeeva.
Delight mixed with amazement is a usual reaction on "Koleso" performances. Russian traditional dance and songs are so interesting, is it possible? "Koleso" had already told to the entire World that Russian folk art can spark not worse then Irish dance.

At the moment of performance we are all in a play. We try to inhabit the stage. All the scenario is exactly what was far ago in every Russian house. It was a tradition now it is a theatre play. Christmas shows in a Saint Spirit center of Alexandra-Nevskaya Lavra is already a tradition. Annually hundreds of children and adults are gathering here.

All that was sung today is written in a Gospel. Holy history has been shown in folk songs. It is upbringing. To collect such a repertoire "Koleso" artists travelled Russian country. They took interviews with grannies, took notes of all the tales.

It is better to insensibly switch on the tape while recording grannies. They are being so nervous. Sometimes they could even start to sing something different.
"Koleso" adapts truly Russian folk for modern audience. Here come actual tunes and lyrics. While he essence of old customs is being former century after century.
